Chandra Bhedana breathing is among the many types of yogic breathing that is also called pranayama breathing. Chandra Bhedana is the left nostril breathing technique. Surya Bhedana is the right nostril breathing which I wrote about earlier. Chandra also means moon

What you are doing is simply blocking the right nostril so you breathe only through your left nostril. You can sit comfortably or with your legs crossed on a pillow on the floor. However, you feel most comfortable is the key.

So you’re sitting on the couch a recliner or a pillow on the floor. I like to take the first finger of my left hand and reach over to my right nostril. The other way of using my thumb I find I slightly block my breathing through my left nostril. It is a little uncomfortable I think.

The benefits of left nostril breathing benefits have been shown scientifically. In this article, the researchers noted that left-nostril breathing had a reduction in sympathetic nervous system activity and an increase in the parasympathetic nervous system. By reducing the sympathetic nervous system we relax. This meditation-breathing technique will help you relax and turn off the fight-or-flight mode which is the sympathetic nervous system's job.

I did write earlier about alternate nostril breathing before here. It showed that alternate nostril breathing allowed a group of basketball players to increase their shooting accuracy. Interesting huh?

Thank you
